now that the air ride has been fixed I new foe has arisen. It typically makes this wonderful noise when I start up after work.
It did it yesterday and this morning. It sounds like some sort of fan and adds an odd tone to the engine. I think it takes some power away as well but I don’t drive it while it makes that noise. It stops after about a minute and almost sounds like a jet engine winding down. I’m aware I drive an Audi.

Are you adopting the Doug DeMuro system of car ownership? That is, your car seems to be equal parts transportation for you and entertainment for us. If only you had bought this car from CarMax...

Don’t know what the noise is. My water pump went out the first year but it doesn’t sound like that. I do currently have a grinding noise when I decelerate while in gear I could try to get a recording of (now that statement does not sound good when I reread it).
But I envy that your center info screen has all of it’s elements working. Mine is 1 line on, 2-4 lines black, 1 line on - makes you guess a lot.
Is your windshield washer tank leaking like mine? Or are you just low on fluid?
ah, I missed the air ride statement - you must have an All Road, not an S4.

Mine’s leaking at the pump site - I think I recall reading that’s a common place years ago. I’ve just run without it for years because replacing the pump requires the “service position” of removing the front end.

By your description it sounds exactly like am air injection pump. But I honestly didn’t feel the need to watch the video. All of those pumps are garbage, doesn’t matter what kind of car it’s on either. You can try the rebuild route if you so desire but I’ve never find it to be particularly effective. I’ve gotten them to work again but never as quietly as they should or for as long as they should (maybe a year at the very most). Save yourself the trouble and just buy a new one, they can be had for a reasonable (IMO) amount of money online. Try rockauto or FCPeuro.

S4 with the same engine. Buddy has your Allroad. He’s getting tired of constantly taking it in though and now looking at some kind of BMW 3 series Gran Coupe or something monstrosity.

replacing the pump sounds like a bunch of BS. How do they design it that way!?! For the first time sine I had this car (xmas time) I saw another Allroad, although it was a much newer model. I miss the excitement from other drivers from when I had my WRX. Other WRX drivers would wave and Audi drivers couldn;t give a crap. I thought one WRX driver was going to jump out of the drivers window he was waving so enthusiastically.

German engineers - bah! Your engine compartment looks as tight as mine even though yours is based on the A6 and mine is an A4. oh well. I do think the Allroad looks good at least. I would have just replaced the air suspension with a normal shock/spring.
Your comment about WRX drivers - maybe that was when Subaru first brought it over and they were rare? Maybe Audi drivers did the same back in the ‘70s?

Yea the drivers of the latest gen WRX didn’t wave as much.
